The Roman province of Britannia existed for nearly 400 years from the initial Roman invasion in AD 43 to the end of Roman control in the British Isles around AD 411. What impact did Roman rule have on the province? Using objects on display in the British Museum as primary evidence, this presentation will consider examples of change and continuity during this period of British history and the picture of life in Roman Britain built up by archaeological finds and sites. Just how Roman was Roman Britain?
